In December, I visited Jax’ Charity Subathon for the Danish Red Cross. Four days of streaming, 24 hours a day, from a container on Rådhuspladsen in Copenhagen.
When I arrived, the counter stood at DKK 80,000. Five hours later, when I left, it was at DKK 250,000. So between the chat and us, we raised an extra DKK 170,000 in five hours.
One moment I remember clearly: we hit DKK 200,000 with one hour left until midnight. We agreed that if we reached 250,000, we’d sing Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now” at a karaoke bar, because the chat wanted to see Jax sing again. At 00.00, we hit the target. At 00.30, we were standing in The Old Irish Karaoke Bar, and of course I sang along.
I have huge respect for what Jax and Twitch can do. Getting that many people involved in such a short time is impressive. And remember: Jax doesn’t get a penny for it. All the money went to the Danish Red Cross, and in total it came to more than DKK 1.3 million.
And one thing I learned: if you get a W in the chat, they think you’re cool.
