Den Nye Standard, Episode 3

Nikolaj Koppel

Co‑founder and CCO of Podimo

Nikolaj Koppel, guest on the Danish-language podcast Den Nye Standard with Nicolai Vittrup

In Episode 3, Nikolaj Koppel, co-founder and CCO of Podimo, joins us in the studio. We've invited Nikolaj in for a conversation about mindset and podcasting as a commercial medium. Together we talk about how the team behind Podimo has built up an international paid market for podcasts.

In his day-to-day work as CCO and co-founder, Nikolaj Koppel is responsible for content production and development. We talk about what Nikolaj brings to the business: the content, and the strategic and commercial framework he has built it on.

In this episode, we talk about Nikolaj’s career change, which came from realising that we only get this one life, and that we need to remember to make the most of it.

Nikolaj talks about mindset, and about why you should remember to look inwards and get to know yourself and your own patterns.

We cover podcasting as a medium: what makes it interesting, the influence it has and why it has earned its place. We also hear what Podimo has done to make the most of what the medium can do, and how they have helped build a commercial ecosystem around podcasts.

Nikolaj was also able to announce that Podimo had just closed a Series B round of DKK 515 million. The money will be put to work quickly, with the ambition of opening in four new markets next year. Podimo also wants to build a global content hub with scalable content that starts from local content and can be adapted to new languages.

We also look at the other side of the coin, and here Nikolaj says you need some mental tools that can prepare you for the rainy days that will come.

Finally, Nikolaj says you should always make an effort and try to get to grips with something you don’t understand, to challenge yourself. It’s something he has tried to teach his children too.
